Shanghai, 16th. December, 1914.
Before me the undersigned official appears this
day Mrs. Johannes Buhrmann from Hongkong and makes the following
declaration;
My husband, the Captain and Pilot Johannes Buhrmana,
born 15th. Kay, 1865 at Lubeck has been interned as a prisoner of
war at the British camp in Kowloon since the outbreak of the
present war, presumably because in his profession as a pilot
between Hongkong and Canton he is acquainted with the navigable
woters and the entrance to the port of Hongkong.
+
As all other German Captains and Pilots who ply in
Southern waters, have been released in the montime and a
German shipping is at a standstill in Southern China at present
not to mention the fact that my husband is above 49 years of age,
I beg to submit through the kind office of the Consul for the
U. St. America at Hongkong the release of my husband. I may
further mention that the latter is already four years above the
German military age limit and that in consequence he is in no way connected with the German Kilitary or Naval authorities.
I am staying at present with my three children at
Shanghai. As I am in a destitute condition the Yangtse-Pilot Captain Kalkofen has offered me free board and lodging.
